Jazz and Java ![]() “Jazzland…It’s Musically Delicious!” will be the theme of the 10th Annual Jazz and Java evening sponsored by the Band Bunch. The sweetest musical event of the year will be held on Saturday, May 19, at 7:00 p.m. in the Menomonee Falls High School cafeteria.
Throughout the evening Jazz Ensembles from North Middle School and Menomonee Falls High School will entertain you with large and small group ensembles, including performances with clinician Adam Gaines, Associate Professor of Jazz at UW Green Bay. An amazing array of cupcakes and a variety of drinks will be available to purchase all evening. Raffles will be held throughout the night with proceeds to benefit District music programs.
Ticket sales will be open to the public on May 1, 2012 at a cost of $10 each. Please contact a Band Director at the High School or North Middle School to request tickets.
MFHS Student Emcee for Best Buddie Walk MF's Dan Sandow was the emcee for the event and has been a strong community leader for Best Buddies. Over 800 people participated in the walk and they raised over $26,000. Congratulations CJ! CJ Cahala won the Youth Empowerment Award from Adaptive Adventures at a documentary screening in Illinois Monday evening. I've watched this young man mature over the years from an inquisitive three year old into a poised 9th grader who is able to assertively advocate for himself. He hasn't let cerebral palsy interfere with his passion for outdoor sports, particularly snowboarding, and has taken on opportunities to mentor other individuals with disabilities in enjoying the sport. This is a well-deserved recognition from a national organization.
MFHS Band Concerto Competition Winners Senior Kurt Heins was named one of the winners for his performance of Mozart's third concerto for French horn. Kurt is very musically involved, and has performed with MYSO's senior symphony for two years and UWM's Youth Wind Ensemble for two years. He is also an avid composer and arranger. Kurt will perform his concerto with the MFHS Wind Symphony at the final concert of the year on Wednesday, May 30.
Junior Allison Wang was also named a winner for her performance of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. In addition to her piano studies, Allison plays alto saxophone in the MFHS Wind Symphony. She has won numerous awards for piano performance, most recently being named winner of the Waukesha Area Symphonic Band concerto competition. Allison will perform her piece with the Wind Symphony at the first concert next school year.
